Working Group of RSMI

Working Group oF Nursing Informatics

Working Group on Nursing Informatics part of RSMI, was created in 1994 in the context in which it became a member of IMIA and EFMI,with full equal rights. The working group was set up as a mirror group of WG5 – EFMI

From 1994 untill 2010 the Working Group in Nursing Informatics was coordinated by Professor Ioana Moisil who represented the group in EFMI and IMIA.

Starting from 2011, the Nursing Informatics WG is under the coordination of Associate Professor Corina V Vernic.

Objectives:
• To support nurses and nursing organizations in Romania with information and contacts and the field of informatics
• To offer nurses opportunities to build contact networks within the informatics field. This could be accomplished by arranging sessions, workshops and tutorials in connection with RSMI, IMIA and Medical Informatics European (MIE) conferences or by arranging separate meetings.
• To support the education of nurses with respect to informatics and computing.
• To support research and developmental work in the field and promote publishing of achieved results.
 

Important activities:
- 1994 attending of AIM 1990-94 Final Conference, held in Lisbon, Portugal, December1994; first contact with the project Telenurse
- 1995 – observer within the project Telenurse, attending First European TELENURSE Conference in Athens, Greece
- 1996 - Release collaboration with the Romanian Association of Nursing - 1996, August, organizing courses for medical informatics nurses from Borsa Hospital, nursing informatics and information on the DS Piatra Neamt. The courses were held by Professor Bernard Richards, Professor Graham Wright and Dr. Helen Betts from the UK.
- 1997 - participation in organizing the workshop and post-conference NI'97 work (participation was sponsored by the Association of Nursing in Sweden, and had the support of scientific and organizing committee: Marianne Tallberg, Ulda Gerdin, Margaret Ehnfors) ; the received materials were donated to ARN.
- August 1997, in the district of Targu Mures, we organised, in collaboration with the County Health Authority, a course for all the head nurses of the district(county) i.e. 36 head nurses. We had as invited speakers prof. Bernard Richards from UMIST - UK and prof.dr.doc. Jana Zvarova from the EuroMISE Center of Charles University and the Academy of Sciences in Prague. The curriculum main topics were divided in 3 parts : 1) computer literacy; 2) nursing informatics (care plans, clinical guidelines, coding and classification, language and ICNP, standards, the electronic patient record and the nursing record as part of it, nursing management and research and decision support systems, computer assisted learning and instruction, Internet and WWW as a communication and documentation environment, the Telenuse and Nightingale projects); 3) introduction to databases - FoxPro .
- October1997, a workshop on nursing informatics with special topic 'ICNP in Romania' and DRG like systems for nursing. At the national conference on Medical Informatics MEDINF'97 the working group for nursing informatics was highly appreciated and the board of the Romanian Medical Informatics Society decided to transform it in a 'special interest group'.
- we tried organizing the Romanian Association for Informatics in Nursing but it could not be fulfilled due to lack of funds.
- 1997-In the frame of the Telenurse Project we had designed a local Web site for reaching the consensus on ICNP Romanian version.
- 1997 – attendance of promoting paper at ICNP la MIE’97; attendance at the workshop WG5-EFMI
- April 1998, Marianne Tallberg visited Romania and lectured about Standards, Codinig, Classification, Language and Terminology in Bistritza Nasaud and Bucharest. The visit was a success and Marianne's lectures good catalizers.
- 1998 - We sent a number of 3 nurses to the EuroMISE course in Medical Informatics held in Prague from 14-25 September 1998.
- 1998 – attendance at 2nd European Telenurse Conference in Sesimbra, Portugal (May 1998)
- 1999 –MIE’99 attendance (promoting ICNP)
- 1999 – within MEDINF ’99 a workshop is organized at ICNP as well as the project TelenurseID (First Romanian Telenurse Conference)
- 2000 – attendance at the international conference "Management of Educationl in Nursing", Sibiu
- 2000- attendance at Telenurse conference, Nov. , Coimbra, Portugal
- 2000 – attendance at 4th European Telenurse Conference, Sibiu
- 2004 – attendance at The 5TH International Conference of F.I.N.E.- Sibiu, 14 – 15 octombrie2004
- 2005-2006 - together with editors from US, New Zealand and Europe the book "Nursing and Informatics for the 21st Century: an international look at practice, trends and the future" (chapter coordination - NI in CEE Countries)
- 2007 – 2009 Coordinate with themes and master degree on nursing informatics (Faculty of Engineering, ULB Sibiu), based onICNP
- 2010 – development master syllabus for computer science in nursing
